Back To School!

Welcome Grade 4's!

HES Room 7 – Grade 4 Blog

Hello All,
This is an official welcome to students and parents. 

It’s time to start school and we will commence the year with positive energy, new and familiar faces, new goals, and new expectations. 

Class Expectations...
~  About 20min to 45 min of homework  (most nights)
~ Be prepared each day with the appropriate learning materials
~  Work is legible, neat, complete, and handed-in for grading on time
~  Work toward a positive "growth-mindset"
~  Participate in all areas of the curriculum to the best of your ability!

Memory Stick 

 

Card 1
Front: Draw a self-portrait or bring in a recent photo of yourself (a close-up is best).

Back: List 5 words that describe you BEST. Write the 5 words in the most creative way you can.
          (Examples: energetic, humorous, athletic, creative, brilliant, caring, responsible, trustworthy, loving, kind, friendly, punctual, flexible, hard-working, honest, …)


Card 2
Front: Draw a picture of you as a baby or bring in a baby photo of yourself.  (From birth to 2 years old).

Back: List your birthdate at the top and write a very short baby story you want to share.


Card 3
Front: Draw a picture of yourself doing something active from ages 3 to 5 or bring in a photo of yourself age 3 to 5.

Back: Write about an important event that happened between the ages of 3 and 5.                             


Card 4
Front: Draw a picture of yourself learning something new from the ages 6 to 7 or bring in a photo of yourself learning 
something new at the ages of 6 to 7.

Back: Write about the front side of this card - something new
(that you could not do before) you were able to learn from the ages of 6 to 7.



Card 5
Front: Draw a picture of yourself at your current age or bring in a photo of yourself doing your most favorite thing! 

Back: Write about the front side of this card – you getting 
pure enjoyment doing your most favourite thing!


Once all five cards have been completed, we will attach them
to our MEMORY STICKS that we found on our hike. Remember
to attach them in order from card 1 to card 5. Start with
card #1 and attach it to the base of the stick and so on until
 card #5 is tied on the tip of the stick.
Criteria will be discussed in class… daily!

              - Instrumental Music Assembly 12:50pm - all parents welcome.
              - Capture the Carpet Sample with Ms. Johnson's class.
             
Wednesday - Year-end reflections & class clean-up 
                   - "A Minute to Win It" Challenges  - bring it your items!
                   - Community Forest game.
                   - House Team standings announced - Trophy presentation!  

Thursday - last day - Assembly from 9 to 11am.
                                - students are officially finished at 11am!!!!
                                - Report Cards.
                                - Summer holidays begin for students!

Friday - Administration Day - staff only.
            - Summer begins!
            - Graduation Night - class of 2016!

Monday - No Word Work this week due to our trip.
              - ART SHOW IN THE GYM - OPEN HOUSE FROM 5 - 7PM!
                     ~come in and check out the art that all the classes made
                       with Mr. Mackie.

Tuesday - District Track and Field Day - in the heat!
                    ~Mr. Bartraw at the high jump all day.
              - students not in track still attend school.

Wednesday - business as usual.
                   - MATH - Graphing Test.
                  - "The Emerald Forest" - a scuba diving live show from an educational, online source
                  - Pines Camp discussions.

Thursday & Friday = PINES CAMP! See you at 7:15am !
                                 ~weather forecast for Grand Forks as of today shows a high probability of rain.

Socials – Early Explorers of Canada

Goal: to research and create a short report and/or other graphic organizer to relate key Early Explorers of Canada to their discoveries.
 What to include:

·       Name, date and place of birth and date of death

·       Which parts of Canada did he / she explore?
(example: use a map to help explain)
·       What did they discover? What makes him/her famous?

·       List all special talents, skills, jobs the explorer had

·       Any information on how Aboriginal Groups helped or relationships they had with YOUR explorer.

***Remember this is a SHORT report.***
