ADST Downhill Challenge!

Downhill Challenge

ADST = Applied Design and Skills Technology...

Curriculum Challenge: design and build / create something that will successfully transport a stuffie or doll down the large snow hill at our school, without it falling off or damaging the created transport model.

Guidelines:

·       Use any material from home from wood, recycling, …, to_____?

·       All designs must be original - created entirely by kids.

*Not a sled from home, or one that is only slightly modified.*

·       Transport model can be any size / shape.

·       Students must be able to easily carry it after it’s assembled.

·       The stuffie must remain on the transporting model the entire way down the hill until it stops. The stuffie must be at least 30cm tall.

 ·       A tipped over model at any time down the hill is not a successful run.

·       Hint: Think about stability, rather than speed or distance.

Bring in ALL building materials on Tuesday, January 23rd.

Designs will be worked on at school for three, one-hour sessions.

Final test runs will be on Thursday, January 25 at 11:30am to 11:50pm.

 Writing

 SHOWING VS TELLING SAMPLES

Sensory Imagery Writing

Sensory details allow the reader to put themselves into your writing mentally by forming a picture in his/her mind. Without sensory details, the reader becomes bored and cannot emotionally connect to the story.

Sensory details include words that describe sights, sounds, textures, smells, and sometimes tastes of the setting, characters, and interactions.

Directions: Write powerful, image-creating sentences by looking at the image of your BIOME and adding sensory details. Make up additional details to construct new sentences.

………………………………………………

Mission Possible!

Your mission, which you must choose to accept, is this…

~Your writing begins with you exploring your biome (scene) that you selected. You will describe many parts with plenty of detail and near the end you realize that you are lost!

~Make the reader feel part of your writing!

………………………………………………………………………………………

I know you can do this!

Final Draft Due date: November 22.
