Feb 27 - "Carnaval de Quebec" and Olympic Sports...
            - Hosted by our class and Madame Vording 
            - TUESDAY MORNING!
  ****  - PLEASE Bring 2 blocks of ICE for "sculptures de glace"
and put it in the courtyard by our class name.

Feb 28 - Pink Shirt Day = ANTI-BULLYING DAY

March 5 - 8 = Dr. Seuss Week

March 12 -14 = Share your Genius Hour findings.

**Mr. Bartraw’s class and Mrs. Archibald’s class are going on a field trip to Pines Camp in Grand Forks, BC. The trip is a two day, one night, Outdoor Education experience to build relationships, classroom co-operation, respect, and teamwork. 
**The confirmed dates are Tuesday, June 26 to Wednesday, June 27, 2018.
 ~ There will be a Parent Information Meeting on Monday March 12 @ 6 to 6:30pm.
(in Mr. Bartraw's room).

March 16 = Term two written report on student learning will be sent home.

We are at the storytelling phase... 8 people per day...

~Creative Writing = How the ___________ got it's _______________.

Creative writing – Aboriginal storytelling animal legends.

Goal: create a short story of “How a ______________ got its _____________.” 

Use your spirit animal… like how a turtle got its shell, or how the giraffe earned its long neck.
Use all your creative writing tools to inspire the students to write and give some standard criteria for grade 4 / 5 levels. BC Performance Standards for Writing … meaning, style, form, conventions.

Other components the stories MUST include:
·       Clearly explain how the ______________ got its _______________ through development of the story.
·       Dialogue (speaking parts) and/or Narration (description)
·       Powerful word / phrase choices (as we’ve practiced using SENSORY IMAGERY)
·       Length – 2 to 4 pages double-spaced.
·       DRAFT Due Friday, February 16 in class…
Students must verbally share their stories and use their masks and other props, without reading from the paper. This is the traditional, aboriginal way.
