Socials -Animal Spirit - What's yours? Leads into "Legends."
We are at the storytelling phase... 8 people per day...

~Creative Writing = How the ___________ got it's _______________.

Creative writing – Aboriginal storytelling animal legends.

Goal: create a short story of “How a ______________ got its _____________.”

Use your spirit animal… like how a turtle got its shell, or how the giraffe earned its long neck.
Use all your creative writing tools to inspire the students to write and give some standard criteria for grade 4 / 5 levels. BC Performance Standards for Writing … meaning, style, form, conventions.

Other components the stories MUST include:
·       Clearly explain how the ______________ got its _______________ through development of the story.
·       Dialogue (speaking parts) and/or Narration (description)
·       Powerful word / phrase choices (as we’ve practiced using SENSORY IMAGERY)
·       Length – 2 to 4 pages double-spaced.
·       DRAFT Due Friday, February 16 in class…
Students must verbally share their stories and use their masks and other props, without reading from the paper. This is the traditional, aboriginal way.
