Greater Expectations...

Working hard again this week...

Reading - NEW NOVEL STUDY - AMONG THE BARONS - M. P. Haddix
               - Mr. Bartraw reads to the class daily
               - students demonstrate comprehension
              - Reading Responses graded every 3 chapters.

Writing - The following students did not submit a story by the deadline...

CHRISTEL, DENVER, CHASE, DAYNA, SEBASTIAN.

 - we had a quotation quiz on Friday ..... with 4 uses of dialogue.
- students should bring these home - there were many successes!

- most writing will correspond with our new novel - remember to write with
  sufficient detail grade sixes!

Word Work - continues as usual working at individual spelling levels.
                   - work hard at your words all week & study
                   - test on Friday
                   - 6/30 earned 100% and advanced to the next level.

Math - quiz on equivalent fractions, comparing fractions.
          - now... improper fractions and mixed numbers conversions
         - expect lots of homework.

Socials - Canada and It's Trading Partners & Links to the world (GLOBAL TRADE)
            - combined with specific mapping skills.
            - we are practicing our mapping online, too
            - CONGRATS TO MACKENZIE ON HER AMAZING SPEED ON

Science - THURSDAY... WE start to define concept of Extreme Environments

HCE  - describe planning techniques that help to support goal attainment (time management, organization, responsibility,...) 
        - the above helps students to recognize that the gr. 6 standards in term two have risen and students must continue to challenge themselves to show greater quality work, daily.

         - guest speaker on Wed for 1/2 day on Gambling - a preventative approach.

P.E. - basketball skills and drills
       - *GYM-SHORTS AND T-SHIRT REQUIRED - NO LONG PANTS - INDOOR RUNNING SHOES*
       - proper dribbling, passing, shooting techniques
      - rules of the game & fouls will be taught in class.
      - Kimberley Alpine Resort information will go home this week - we will be on the hill three times.

       - This week is using the layering technique to create 'A Winter Wonderland.'
