December 1 to 5

December 5 = Communicating Student Learning (Report cards - term one) sent home.

December 9 = Create a Diorama

This part of the biomes project will be completed at school. 

IN ADVANCE, AT HOME... begin to collect A SHOE BOX / SMALL BOX AND ... any small items that will make a diorama look realistic to the chosen biome and ecosystem. Some ideas are small pebbles, pieces of pine trees, small plastic animals or palm trees, cotton balls for clouds or snow, small shrubs or bushes, plastic plants, shells, sand or anything else. 

These items should be brought to school on December 9th (not before this date) for the dioramas.

 All other materials such as paint, plasticine, pipe cleaners, paper, glue, hot glue guns,... will be provided by the school.

December 10 and 11 = ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PRESENT A BIOME RESEARCH PROJECT WITH A DIORAMA!

 Dec 10 = Skating at Kinsmen Arena.

- bus leaves HES around 10am; returns around 11:45am.

~Remember that helmets are required!

~If you do not own skates, the Kinsmen Arena has many pairs of used skates your child may use, but no helmets. 

Any parents who are available and willing to help tie skates, on  skating day... that would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Parents can join us as well (no siblings of students please - they have their own skating days).

Among the Hidden (Volume 1): Haddix ...

 Luke Garner, a 12-year-old boy, lives on a farm with his mother, father, and two brothers. As a third child, Luke and his parents are in violation of a population law. Luke, like all third children, must spend his days hidden or away from public view, or else he will be taken away or imprisoned, as well as his family.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT this week on any day, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE AUDIO VERSION HERE ON YOUTUBE and get caught up. We will read to the end of chapter 24 by this Friday...

AMONG THE HIDDEN CHAPTER 13

Writing focus:  to improve our sentences. When we read a chapter of our novel, we will discuss ideas therein, and sometimes write a journal entry. We are working at augmenting our sentence structure usage and spelling accuracy when we communicate in writing.         

Reading will also be focused on non-fiction sources online for our SCIENCE biomes projects.

~Word Work - Unit 13 - since students are starting from different levels of spelling, there will be different groups, according to where they are at, as observed in class. Students may increase or decrease in levels, depending on their written outputs. 

- All units are handed out on Mondays and then the rest needs to be worked on at home.

 *Students are responsible for bringing home their "working with words" handout at the beginning of each week. There are activities on the pages; practicing word patterns, meanings of words, etc,.. Students must return the page for grading on the last day of the week.

  - HAND IN your FINISHED 'WORD WORK' HANDOUT ON or before the last day of the week.
  - Unit #13 study all list words; Multiple choice TEST on Friday this week.
