The art was sent home on Wednesday, October 29th.

Please read the instructions on the back of the art piece.

Order anything you choose! Write down your online order and order reference number on the back.

Please return the completed order sheet AND ARTWORK in the envelope back to OUR CLASS ON OR BEFORE Wednesday, Nov 12th.

*Even if you do not order anything, please return the art piece in the envelope back to class.

Monday, November 10th - REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONY in the gym at 11am. 

~Levi and Olivia are the wreath carriers for our class.

*All students are asked to dress in black, white, and/or red if possible.

HES will provide poppies for all students for the ceremony.

 Nov 19 and Dec 10 = Skating at Kinsmen Arena - bus is paid for.

- permission forms will go home soon. 

- bus leaves HES around 10am; returns around 11:45am.

~Remember that helmets are required!

~If you do not own skates, the Kinsmen Arena has many pairs of used skates your child may use, but no helmets. 

Any parents who are available and willing to help tie skates, on either of the skating days... that would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Parents can join us as well (no siblings of students please - they have their own skating days).

FINISH IT UP THIS WEEK. 

~ Students have chosen from 10 novels and read 30 minutes each day.

~ Next, complete a "CHUNKING SHEET." 

This means reading responses from our novel study...

chunking sheets describing likes, dislikes, questions, and patterns with plenty of detail.

Chunking Sheet Guidelines

 

What I liked…

 Use complete sentences to explain any event(s) in the ‘chunk’ you enjoyed. It could be when a character said or did something that was interesting to you. Explain your likes with evidence from what you read or reasons!

 ~ Minimum 2 sentences.  

 

What I disliked…

 Use complete sentences to explain any event(s) in the ‘chunk’ you disliked. It could be when a character said or did something that you simply did not like.  Explain your dislikes with evidence from what you read or reasons!

 ~ Minimum 2 sentences.  

 

Puzzles or Questions… 

Use complete sentences (and a question mark at the end) to write 3 powerful questions. These questions are things that puzzled you. Remember that powerful questions usually begin with HOW or WHY. Powerful questions do not have a one word answer.

~ Minimum 2 questions.  


  Patterns…

Use complete sentences to explain any patterns you found in this ‘chunk.’ Patterns might include story events, words / phrases a character repeats, or how the author writes. Explain your patterns with evidence or reasons!

 ~ Minimum 2 sentences.

~ Writing sentences - we are working at increasing our accuracy when we communicate in writing. Journal writing is also part of written development in class, two times per week.                   

DAILY WRITING PRACTICE...

~Word Work - Unit 9 - since students are starting from different levels of spelling, there will be different groups, according to where they are at, as observed in class. Students may increase or decrease in levels, depending on their written outputs. 

- All units are handed out on Mondays and then the rest needs to be worked on at home.

 *Students are responsible for bringing home their "working with words" handout at the beginning of each week. There are activities on the pages; practicing word patterns, meanings of words, etc,.. Students must return the page for grading on the last day of the week.
