HES Room 7 – Grade 4/5 Blog

Hello All,
This is an official welcome to students and parents. 

It’s time to start school and we will commence the year with positive energy, new and familiar faces, new goals, and new expectations. 

Class Expectations...
~  About 20min to 60 min of homework  (most nights)
~ Be prepared each day with the appropriate learning materials
~  Work is legible, neat, complete, and handed-in for grading on time
~  Work toward a positive “growth mindset”
~  Participate in all areas of the curriculum to the best of your ability

Important Information:
Dear Parents,
Mr. Bartraw’s class and Mr. McKenzie’s grade 4/5 class from TM Roberts are planning to go on a field trip to Pines Camp in Grand Forks, BC. The trip is a two day, one night, Outdoor Education experience to build classroom co-operation, respect, and teamwork. 
The confirmed dates are Thursday, October 1 to Friday, October 2.
I would like to have an information meeting next Wednesday, September 16 at 6pm in my classroom.

  Basic Itinerary:
  We will leave HES at 7:30am and arrive at the CAMP by 11:00am. Orientation will follow.  There will be time to settle into cabins, eat lunch and then be ready to start activities.  We would participate in two activities in the afternoon and one in the evening after supper.  Then we have a campfire and a game of Mission Impossible in the dark.
The next morning we would run the 4th activity, and then have time for moving out of your cabins, cleaning up cabins and camp grounds.  Lunch is provided before we leave. We expect to return to HES around 5:30pm on Friday, October 2.

Outdoor Education Activities
Students will be organized, by their teachers, into four groups to rotate through the all the activities. Here are the four main outdoor learning activities students will experience:
~Rappelling          ~Challenge Course – team emphasis     
~Survival Skills     ~Team Building Activities ………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Cost per student
The cost is $100 per person which will include the transportation (bus) cost, your stay at the camp, programming (activities), and 3 meals 2 snacks provided by Pines Camp.
Some parent volunteers will be necessary.
Other information will be provided at the information meeting.
